Obituary for Margie Jenkins

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (5)Margie Gainous Jenkins, age 94, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon May 23, 2024, in Atlanta Georgia. Her grandson, Sean Hester, was with her at the time of her death.

Her burial service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Gainous family cemetery on Dot Road in Adairville, Kentucky, and will be officiated by Brent Lee. Pallbearers will be Sean Hester, Seth Jenkins, Scott Gainous, Keith Knight, David Gainous and Carney Hallman. A brief on-site visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 preceding the service.

Miss Margie, as she was called by many, was born May 31, 1929, in Logan County, Kentucky, and died just eight days short of her 95th birthday. Her parents were the late Jimmy Price Gainous and Josie Bybe Gainous and her beloved stepmother Rebecca McGoldrick Gainous. Miss Margie spent most of her life in Kentucky with her children and husband. However, she also lived in Dade City Florida from late 1970 until 1989 at which time she and her husband, Rudy Jenkins, moved back to Kentucky to take care of her mother, Rebecca Gainous. In Kentucky, she worked for Houchins grocery store and in Florida she was a teaching assistant in the Pasco County school system. In addition to raising her children and working, Miss Margie was very active in the Church of Christ in Kentucky and Florida. She was also known by all to be an excellent cook and was always among the first to reach out to friends, neighbors and family when food and/or care were needed. She was truly devoted to helping those in need and doing so gave her great joy. It should also be noted that much of the food she cooked came from her own garden that she raised for many, many years with the help of her son, Jimmy.

She is survived by her son Jimmy Jenkins (wife Marina), daughter Janice J Hester-Daniels and by her grandchildren: Sean Hester, Seth Jenkins (Michel), Rachel Jenkins and her step grandchildren: Jennifer Daniels, Jessica (Krisztian) Varsa and Carson (Katherine) Daniels and by 11 great grandchildren.

Obituary for Connie Whitaker

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (10)Connie Laverne Whitaker, age 78, of Adams, Tennessee died Wednesday May 22, 2024, at Tristar North Crest Medical Center.

Funeral services were held on Friday May 24, 2024, at 2 pm in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with burial to follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12 pm until the hour of service at 2 pm.

Connie was born February 3, 1946, in Springfield, Tennessee to the late Samuel and Margaret Rice Gilstrap. Her husband, George Marion Whitaker and brothers, Scott, David and Mac Gilstrap also preceded her in death. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed watching them all play ball and was an avid reader and an amazing cook and baker.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Pastor John Grosvenor officiating. Burial will follow in Harper Hills Cemetery with Cameron Cantrell, Braxton Cantrell, Caleb Brummett, Garrett Overby, Lloyd Autin, and Tony Sexton serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. Brummett was born February 1, 1954 in Scottsburg, IN to the late Edmund Hoytt and Wilma Odean Cox Cook. She was a member of Impact Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and loved her church family as well. She enjoyed reading and even wrote a book herself. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl Brummett; a brother, Charles Cook; and a grandson, Joshua Lynch.

Elaine Bowington Obituary

In honor of her wishes, her remains will be cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a future date.

Elaine was born September 23, 1960, in Murfreesboro, to the late Robert Comer and Ester Dell Porterfield Brothers. She was a graduate of Maplewood High School Class of 1978. Elaine worked as a stock associate at Belk in Springfield, and she was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening, animals, and watching TV, especially Ghost Hunters. The highlight of Elaine’s life was spending time with her husband, her girls, and her cat.

Obituary for Linda Patterson “Pat” Rolfe

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (25)Linda Patterson “Pat” Rolfe, 77, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 27, 1946, in Waverly, TN, Pat was the daughter of Marie and George Patterson. She graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1964 and soon after moved to Nashville where she would have an illustrious career in the music industry.

Pat’s career in the industry began in 1966 when Lamar Fike of Hill & Range Songs invited her to join the company. Over the next few years, she worked with legends such as Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Eddy Arnold, Hank Snow, Eddie Rabbitt, Bill Monroe, and George Morgan. A highlight of her early career was her work with Elvis Presley.

In 1972, Pat became General Manager of Hill & Range Songs, making history as one of the first women to head a major publishing company.

After the company’s acquisition by Chappell Music in 1973, she continued to excel, helping the company earn ASCAP Publisher of the Year seven times. Her leadership and vision were instrumental in the success of writers like Rory Bourke, Charlie Black, and many others. Pat eventually rose to the position of Vice President at Chappell Music and continued her influential work until 1987.

That year, Pat transitioned to ASCAP, where she served as Director of Membership Relations before being promoted to Vice President, a role she held until her retirement in 2010.

She was pivotal in nurturing the careers of many successful artists and songwriters, including Tony Mullins, Trevor Rosen, Hillary Lindsey, Josh Kear, Craig Wiseman, Chris Tompkins, Tim Ryan, Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, and Wynonna. Beyond her professional achievements, Pat co-founded the SOURCE Nashville organization and the Music Row Ladies Golf Tournament. She also served on the boards of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), Nashville Music Association, Baptist Hospital, and the Copyright Society of the South.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the industry, Pat was inducted into the SOURCE Hall of Fame in 2012. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Mack; her stepchildren, John (Vanessa), Jim (Mary K), and Dick (Michelle); seven grandchildren; and brothers, Jim, Mike, Joe, and Charlie Patterson, and sister, Margaret Simmons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and George Patterson, and her brother Jerry Patterson, and sister-in-law Ann Patterson.

Funeral services were conducted Friday May 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Kyle Slater and Reverend Randy Harmon officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Dan Pratt, Dennis Pratt, Randy Crawford, Bubba Watson, Terry Atchley, and Perry Fisher serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Royce Yarbrough, Mike Reaves, Don Osborne, and all the past and present employees of Larry’s Restaurant. The family received friends on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Larry was born February 27, 1939, in Springfield, to the late Virgil and Velma Rawls Pratt. He was a graduate of Coopertown High School Class of 1958, was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, was a former member of the Springfield Civitan Club, and attended Rock Springs Baptist Church. Larry served as choir director at Grace Baptist Church in Springfield for many years and was a member of the Grace Singers. He started in business with Larry’s Buffet on Main Street in 1964, and then was the owner of Larry’s King Burger on 5th Ave, Rainbow Grill on Memorial Blvd, and then he was the retired owner of Larry’s Restaurant which is still on Central Avenue today. In his spare time he enjoyed skeet shooting.

Obituary for Billy Wayne Bagwell

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (45)Billy Wayne Bagwell, age 90, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted at 12pm Saturday, May 25th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Dr. Steve Freeman officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery with grandsons Evan Bagwell, Ethan Bagwell, Casey Hahn, Preston Hahn, Walt Chitwood III, Shane Bagwell, Clayton Bagwell, and Jack Bagwell serving as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 10am until time of the service at 12pm Saturday, May 25th at the funeral home.

Mr. Bagwell was born April 11, 1934, in Springfield, to the late Walter and Bessie Ellis Bagwell. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany from 1954-55. Mr. Bagwell worked as a Printer for Nashville Electrographics Company for 42 years.

Mr. Bagwell was an avid fisherman, nature lover, and University of Tennessee fan. He loved his family, telling stories, singing, playing football, antique cars, and old movies about the wild west, especially starring John Wayne. In retirement, he enjoyed fishing and watching wildlife on the lake in front of his home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn Krisle Bagwell; and brothers, Vincent Bagwell, Roy Bagwell, and James Bagwell.

Obituary for Nancy Sue Walker Evetts

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (50)Nancy Sue Walker Evetts, a longtime resident of Hendersonville, died peacefully May 7, 2024, after a brief illness. She lived her life as “Sue” until her oldest grandson was born, when she became known to all as “Sudie”, a name originally given to her by her own grandfather.

Sudie was born May 30, 1939 in Robertson County, Tennessee, to Nancy Christine Randolph Walker (1916-1970), of Robertson County and Willard Bolton Walker (1916-1977) originally of Owen County, Kentucky. She grew up in Robertson County; in Dayton, Ohio; and in Nashville, with trips to Owen County. She was a member of the 1957 Springfield High School graduating class and later in life worked for many years at F&S Trailer Sales in Nashville. She joined Bluegrass Baptist Church/Indian Lake Peninsula Church in 1970 and remained a member for the rest of her life, most recently in the Friendship Sunday School class.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by eight generations of Robertson County ancestors, and by every best friend she ever had. Sudie is survived by her daughter Nancy Ann “Sissy” Armstrong of Gallatin and son Sam Evetts (Eileen) of Katy, Texas; grandchildren Sam Armstrong, Spencer (Brooke) Armstrong, Joshua Evetts, and Sara Evetts; great-grandchildren Everett and Aubrey Armstrong; friends Roger and Peggy Evetts of Old Hickory; and family-by-choice too numerous to name.

Mrs. Riddle was born September 25, 1937, in Nashville, to the late James P. and Lucille Price Green. She was a graduate of Cohn High School and was of the Methodist faith. Mrs. Riddle was the owner/operator of Beauty Unlimited in Nashville for many years, and then later retired as a real estate agent. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, having lunch with her friends, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: Jimmy Green and by her sister: Judy McAdams.

Mrs. Riddle is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Julie and Denny Vinson of Greenbrier, by her grandchildren: Stefanie (Aaron) Palmer, Jennifer (Clay) Thomerson, Leah (Tyler) Grevious, and Nichole (Shawn) Parkton, by her sisters: Helen Green of Old Hickory, Evelyn (Roy) Whitehead of Hermitage, Sherron Wakefield of Milton, and Jane (Rick) Carver of Columbia, by her eleven great grandchildren, and by her lifelong friend: Evelyn (Terry) Harris.

She was born October 29, 1928 in White House, TN to William Abner & Sarah Wheeler Tate. She worked at the First American Bank in Nashville, at Harvey’s Store Madison in the children’s department and as a seasonal Christmas tree designer and at Old Time Pottery in Madison. In her early years, she attended Mount Pleasant Methodist Church in White House, TN, and was a member of White House First United Methodist Church. After her marriage to Paul Duvoll Young on June 8, 1957, she and her husband became members of City Road Chapel United Methodist Church in Madison. She was a member of the church choir, the United Methodist Women, the Hayes Sunday School Class and Friendship Sunday School Class and was a baby nursey volunteer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Abner & Sarah Wheeler Tate; husband, Paul Duvoll Young; sister, Viola Kelley; brothers, Paul Tate, Anderson Tate and Cecil Tate. She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Mark) Lowe; granddaughters, Lindsey Brooke Lowe and Lacey Blaire (Phillip) Branch; great-granddaughter, Lowen Blaire Branch; great-grandson due to arrive in July 2024; brothers-in-law, John Kelley, David (Ann) Young; sisters-in-law, Sue Young, Joyce (William) Hudgens; friend and neighbor, Diane Thomas; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her dog companion that stayed by her side, Tate; many other adored pets and farm animals over the years.

Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery with Zach Young, Tony Tate, Russel Stoddard, Brad Bertram, Ethan Bertram and John Robinson serving as pallbearers. Visitation was Wednesday, May 22, 2024 9:30AM-12PM at the funeral home.

Obituary for Jerry Wheeler

In Loving Memory:Obituaries May 26, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (65)Jerry Ronald Wheeler was born in Elkton, Kentucky on April 26, 1946. He passed away on May 16, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lorene Mayes Wheeler.

Jerry is survived by his wife Jacqueline “Jaccie” Wheeler, daughters Ashley Wheeler and Allison Davis (Brandon), son Jason Leaf, brother Dale Wheeler, niece Jessica Miller (Brad), nephew Matt Wheeler (Tamara), mother-in-law Maxine Davis, and eight grandchildren.

Jerry graduated from Todd County Central High School in 1964 and then went on to join the United States Navy on December 28, 1966. After completing basic training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he served as a Navy Corpsman attached to the United States Marine Corp and spent most of his service time in Okinawa, Japan. Jerry is a Vietnam-era veteran and was honorably discharged from the Navy on September 1, 1970.

Prior to retiring in 2015, Jerry spent 40+ years in manufacturing glass doors in the commercial refrigeration industry. He worked in operations and then focused the rest of his career in sales & marketing. He also had the distinction of being named a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky for starting a new company in Elkton, Kentucky.

Jerry was a fun loving, generous, and caring man that enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Kelley was born April 2, 1958, in Nashville, to the late Charles and Mary Kelley. He worked in the Wiley Steel factory most of his life.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Kelley was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, David Holmes.

No services are planned at this time and at his request, his body will be cremated.

Michael was born in Nashville to the late Robert Eugene and Martha Evelyn Gambill Spears. Michael was a fun loving and caring person. He loved old music such as Journey, old cars and action-packed movies. He worked in sales and was a member of Grace Park Baptist Church.
