Future of Anthony Gordon unclear despite Newcstle sale

The future of Anthony Gordon is still up in the air despite the prospective sale of Yankuba Minteh, according to Chronicle Live.

Our sister site has reported that what comes next for the 23-year-old remains to be seen while the uncertainty surrounding Financial Fair Play looms.

Lee Ryder wrote: "Yankuba Minteh looks set to sign for Brighton & Hove Albion after Newcastle United made a breakthrough on selling the teenage winger.

"After discussions with Everton and Lyon resulted in no deal being struck, Minteh then spoke to the Seagulls and personal terms are now being finalised as the player got his wish to stay in the Premier League. Newcastle have this evening confirmed that a £33million deal has been struck.

"But that may not be the end of the sales for Newcastle ahead of the June 30 PSR health check deadline. Chronicle Live has learned that talks between Liverpool and Newcastle did take place for Anthony Gordon and the England international's future is very much up in the air until the club's FFP situation settles down."

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Brighton have agreed a deal worth around £33m to sign Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United.

The 19-year-old has supposedly agreed personal terms and the deal, it has been said, will help the Magpies in their PSR hopes.

Jurgen Klopp, na, na, na

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to have a better disguise when he next goes for a mooch on his travels post Liverpool.

The former Reds boss has been in Mallorca, where he is seemingly spending most of his days after a few cameos at football matches across Europe, for the tennis.

Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph has provided further detail in the reports surrounding Newcastle United's Anthony Gordon and Liverpool.

Firstly, the reporter has outlined that the 23-year-old is a boyhood Red - something fractions of the supporters have picked up on with his recent admissions about iconic captain Steven Gerrard and the atmosphere at Anfield.

The Magpies' "willingness" to sell the England international highlights their desperation with the threat of Profit and Sustainability Rules closing in.

It has been suggested that Liverpool would likely be one of the few rival Premier League clubs that the interest would be met with enthusiasm by Gordon with recruitment chiefs admirers of the former Everton attacker. To caveat, Bascombe has highlighted that the acquisition of Gordon would create an overload of wide players despite the attractive proposal.

Luis Diaz has been mentioned as a player who has been linked with a move away from Merseyside but it is made clear that there has been no suggestion publicly from neither the Colombian or his camp that he is weighing up an exit.

Archie Gray latest: Liverpool interested as Leeds United star set for a medical

Leeds United star Archie Gray is set for a medical at Brentford, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

The Bees are said to be closing in on the talented 18-year-old for a fee in the region of £35million. It has been claimed that the Englishman will undergo checks before a move to the Premier League.

Ibrahima Konate details France struggle

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has revealed he almost passed out trying to get fit for Euro 2024.

The Frenchman hasn't featured for Didier Deschamps' side in the competition this summer as they take on Belgium in the Round of 16.

Konate has detailed his battle to put his name in the frame for a place. He said: "I came with a lot of expectations, that's part of football.

"I knew what my place was before the first match. It's frustrating but I know my role on and off the field. A 100 percent Ibou would never have sat on the bench.

A report from the Guardian says Liverpool are still admirers of Gordon despite talks falling through this week.

Talks could recommence before long, the report moots. The ECHO understands Newcastle approached Liverpool as a result of their financial stance with Premier League spending limits.

Diaz exit reports

One to be careful of here - reports in Spain are speculating that Liverpool are 'preparing to sell' Luis Diaz. According to our latest information, there is no inkling of this at all.

In fact, Liverpool will only consider offers north of the £50m fee they paid for the Colombian in January 2022, a fee Barcelona - most linked with Diaz - are unlikely to afford amid their debt situation.

Diaz still has three years on his contract at Anfield and last month said he was "happy" at the club. The player has not handed in a transfer request either, with Liverpool in no rush to secure his future.

Bayern exit looks inevitable for Kimmich

Just breaking away from the Anthony Gordon news, a report from Germany says Bayern Munich are upset with Joshua Kimmich over his comments in a new documentary.

Liverpool have been linked with the 29-year-old amid speculation that the Reds will look for a new defensive midfielder this summer.

His relationship with Bayern is said to be strained and now Christian Falk claims this has further soured after Kimmich criticised the club over their raection to his stance on Covid vaccines in the new documentary.

It's thought that a renewal from Bayern will not be forthcoming despite there being just a year left on his deal, and so the club may look to sell him this summer.

Anthony Gordon, 23, cost Newcastle £45m 18 months ago and his stock market value has risen since his move to St James' Park.

Transfermarkt values him at around £51m, although in normal circ*mstances the Magpies would want to hold out for more. If a buyer comes in before tomorrow, though, such a fee may be enough to tempt Newcastrle.

Gordon - who earned his fourth England cap in a late cameo during the 0-0 draw with Slovenia on Tuesday - is playing in his first international tournament at Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate chose him for his squad on the back of 12 goals (triple the number he managed the season prior) and 11 assists in 48 matches for Newcastle last term.

Across his senior career - which included a loan sepll at Preston North End - Gordon has played 153 games, including 104 starts, and recorded 20 goals and 19 assists.

Gordon 'medical' claim

Just drawing more on the reports from elsewhere that suggested Anthony Gordon might have been set for a medical in Leipzig if talks with Liverpool had progressed...

It's not uncommon for such practices to happen when tight deadlines are approaching in transfer windows - in this case, tomorrow in light of the June 30 end date for the Profit & Sustainability cycle.

On another note, will Trent Alexander-Arnold be having a word with Gordon inside the England camp? Of course, Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier will try and make sure he doesn't.

There's less than 48 hours to go before the PSR deadline, either way - and, after all, there is an England Euro 2024 last-16 clash to prepare for as well.

Everton would benefit from Gordon sale to Liverpool

Everton would receive a cash windfall if Newcastle ultimately do sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool, the ECHO understands.

The winger left Goodison Park 18 months ago in a £45m deal that left a bitter taste in the mouths of Evertonians.

The club statement confirming his exit notably did not include any thank yous or best wishes.

It read: “Anthony Gordon has joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old forward leaves Everton after having submitted a formal transfer request.

“Gordon joined the club’s academy at the age of 11 and made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in a Europa League tie in December 2017. He went on to make 78 first-team appearances, scoring seven goals.”

Diaz to Barcelona 'hits buffers'

A new report from Sport says Barcelona's supposed pursuit of Luis Diaz has paused with new boss Hansi Flick preferring to target Nico Williams.

The Spain attacker has also been linked with Liverpool, albeit it is thought that the club are unwilling to pay out his reported £60m release clause.

Diaz, meanwhile, netted in Colombia's 3-0 win over Costa Rica at the Copa America last night.

The Reds rejected the opportunity given the Magpies were after Jarell Qunasah in return - a player Liverpool have no intention to letting ago with hopes of a bright future for both club and country.

Liverpool feel they are well-stocked in the left flank area, albeit this could change if Luis Diaz forces through a transfer to Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain amid their reported interest.

It says Gordon, who arrived at Newcastle from Everton 18 months ago for £45m, would have been scheduled for a Liverpool medical in Leipzig while away with England at Euro 2024 if initial talks had progressed.

The report adds that talks could be 'revived' this weekend in light of the PSR deadline.

Times Gordon has name-checked Liverpool greats

Anthony Gordon has previously spoken of his admiration for Steven Gerrard and Mohamed Salah, two Reds icons.

Speaking on the Overlap earlier this year, the 23-year-old waxed lyrical about Gerrard, admitting:

“Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up. Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.

He also referenced Liverpool winger Salah in an interview with TNT Sports:

"I watch Salah a lot. Numbers-wise, the positions he takes up, the runs in behind — he’s unbelievable. He’s probably the best player in the world for me because he has so much impact on the game."

Gordon talks 'break down'

Newcastle were reportedly willing to sell Anthony Gordon to Liverpool this summer before talks broke down - but talks could begin again this weekend.

The Daily Mail says discussions fell through when Newcastle had asked for Jarell Qaunsah to go the other way - something Liverpool were not prepared to agree to.

The Reds were also said to be no so adamant on Gordon's arrival due to the options they already have in wide areas. However, the report says talks could be revived before the weekend is out.

Newcastle are thought to be under the cosh to comply with Premier League spending rules by June 30, with this Sunday being the end date for the current three-year cycle.

The report says Gordon is content at St James' Park and is happy working under Eddie Howe but is aware of the situation of a potential move to Liverpool.

'I always get asked about Liverpool'

Feyenoord forward Igor Paixao has revealed he is frequently getting asked whether he is joining former boss Arne Slot at Liverpool.

The Reds have been tipped to look for a winger this summer, although links with Brazilian Paixao have essentially been non-existent.

Nevetheless, he told Globo Esporte:

"I am listening and watching social media. Lots of people always tagging me and asking: are you going to Liverpool?

It is being suggested that Liverpool have contacted Newcastle over Anthony Gordon, currently away at Euro 2024 with England.

The winger has been linked with Anfield in recent weeks but it's not thought any move has been made for the former Everton attacker.

However, HITC claims that contact has now has been made, and that Arne Slot is 'keen' to bolster his attacking options - albeit this is contrary to what other reports suggest.

Despite reports linking him to Barcelona, Liverpool are in no rush to sort Luis Diaz's future given he still has three years left on his contract.

Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Drawin Nunez can all play either on the left or up front while Mohamed Salah is expected to stay on despite entering the last year of his contract.

Liverpool face competition for Thuram

Liverpool were connected with OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram earlier in the window, abeit such links have cooled over the last month.

And now Italian outlet Tuttosport claims Juventus are ready to come in and pinch the playmaker, who has just 12 months left on his contract.

Should Liverpool indeed wish to make a move for the Frenchman, it seems they would have to act quickly.

What is the latest situaiton with Kvaratskhelia?

It's got slightly messy over recent weeks and perhaps Kvaratskhelia's time away with Georgia has actually been an unexpected reprieve.

Earlier this month, his agent, Mamuka Jugeli delcared he doesn "not want people to think that Kvara wants to stay at Napoli".

His father then supported this view, saying: “I don’t want my son to stay at Napoli. They changed three coaches last season, and it’s hard to play in a similar situation.”

It prompted Napoli to release a statement about Kvaratskhelia, which outlined that his future strictly depends on Napoli's decision while he is under contract.

It said: "It is not the agents or fathers who decide the future of a player under contract with Napoli but the Calcio Napoli club!!! End of the story.”

A bit of a sticky one.

Kvaratskhelia outlines transfer stance

Liverpool have been connected with holding interest in Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia amid his starring role for Georgia at Euro 2024.

His Italian employers have recently hired Antonio Conte as their new coach but it is uncertain that Kvaratskhelia will stay on, with his father and agent keen for him to move on this summer - despite this very much not being the will of Napoli.

Speaking about his future, the attacker said, as per The Standard:

“I respect [new Napoli boss Antonio] Conte, he’s one of the best managers. I respect also Napoli, I love Napoli. I will decide my future after the Euros. Now I’m focused on the game vs Spain.”

Kelleher replacement?

Liverpool may be forced to search for a replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher if the Irishman decides he wishes to leave Anfield this summer after a long stint as a back-up to Alisson.

Globo Esporte claims the Reds are looking at Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento, having kept 13 clean sheets in 25 matches for his club so far amid the summer Brazilian season.

Inter have apparently seen a £12.7m bid rejected for the shot-stopper, who turned 25 earlier this month.

Coman 'interest'

A speculative report is claiming that Liverpool have made contact with Kingsley Coman, it being mooted that the French star is unsure of his future at Bayern Munich.

Michael Olise looks set to join Bayern from Crystal Palace and so Coman's playing time could be restricted.

HITC casts Arsenal within the frame too, while Chelsea have been linked. It says Coman could be available for around £50m.

The 28-year-old can play on either wing and as a striker if needed, neither of which are thought to be priority areas for reinforcement at Liverpool this summer.

'Not advancements' for Eze

While links with Eberechi Eze bubble on, journalist Fabrizio Romano says there has yet to be any contact with Liverpool and Crystal Palace.

Eze is currently away at Euro 2024 with England with any talks unlikely to happen until post-tournament. All transfer interest in the winger, from all clubs, is still at primitive stages as a result.

It's unclear whether Liverpool consider as winger one of their primary target areas to reinforce this summer.
