Boats on the brain!!

I'll have to admit to doing the same thing. Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (2) I have to admit to scrounging parts off of my youngest sons toys for boat fittings. It never fails that as soon as you take a part off a toy that hasn't been played with months, that will be the toy they pick up next and immediatly notice the missing part.

MOM....

Actually, your story reinforces my reasons for getting a Springer done for each of the boys. Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (5)

I think I have this picture stuff figured out. Someone asked about a steel hulled springer. The running gear is in it and the deck is on, tried it out at the Great Lakes Regatta last year. Still need to put some sort topside on it. I will try to get some pics of it as it is now.

At least the steel one will make a neat "gaboonnggg" noise when someone hits it if used to play polo. Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (20) Heck will make that noise if it hits anything or vice versa! Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (21)

looks like... stick welds? Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (25)

been along time since I had to make water tight welds heh... kinda gives me the idea I should blow the dust off the 220 mig that's been sitting idle for just over 2years and put that 4x6 sheet of tin I've been carting around to use and make a barge for the shark springer to heave around Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (26)

hmmm 2ft wide.. 3.5ft long 6 or 7 inchs tall...... wonder what that'll ballast out at to sit 'waterline' LOL

Nope, cheep harbor freight wire welder, flux core,no gas. One weld will look great, the next looks like popcorn. The grinder is my friend!

ah! .. okay just looked like the powder left from the flux around arc stick.. guess it's just the vaporised rust from the surface that your welding

those cheap wirefeed arcs can be very useful.. but insanely frustrating... before I got my own welder I did a major rust repair on a Ranchero with he cheap wire arc... I spent 150 hours on that damn car LOL hand formed 3/4 of a rear quarter panel (aka box side) .. and redid the whole cargo spot behind the seat in the cab....

and now that I have all this fun metal fab stuff I never have time to use it! .. I've got a drill press still in the box that's been sitting for a year and a half Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (27) unfortunately the shop all my fab stuff is in is a half hour drive from my house (3 bay shop on family land.. one bay is a pro paint booth Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (28) ) ... if I wasn't in 'new family' mode ( daughter just turned 2) I'd run my own business out of it.. but I just can't take the risk of it .. so I stick to my "day job" as auto tech.. and we look for a house we can afford that has the space I need to bring everything 'home' Springer Class R/c Boats - Page 231 (29)

heavyhauler,

What gauge steel you use? Looks like 16 or so. I have a plasma table and have been tossing this some idea around for awhile now. Looks awesome! You gotta cut a metal cabin for her! Toooooo cool!!!
