Obituaries Abilene Reporter- News Thursday, May 18, 2000 5AA Britten Garrett Britten Garrett Britten Garrett, 70, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at a local medical center. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Minda Street Church of Christ with Dr. Tony E. Roach officiating.

Burial will be in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Mr. Garrett was born in Palestine. He moved from Palestine to Abilene in 1948, where he worked for J.H. Strain Sons, Inc.

in bridge construction. He had been a member of Minda Garrett Street Church of Christ since 1982 and was active in the bus ministry as well as all other church activities. Survivors include two sons, Billy Ray Garrett of Bryan, Carl Garrett of Huntsville; two daughters, Monica Garrett Dawkins of Abilene, Bridgett K. Foreman of Arlington; two step-sons; three step-daughters; two brothers, Gene Garrett, Earl Garrett, both of Abilene; four sisters, Mollie Walker, Katherine Henry, Melvina Montgomery, Julia Garrett, all of Abilene; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Graves was born in Abbott and was a resident of Brownwood most of his life. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army having served from 1943-1945. He retired in 1978 from the Texas Highway Department and was a member of Early First Baptist Church.

He married Lou Sudderth in 1971. Survivors include his wife, Lou, of Brownwood; one son, Wayne Graves of Brownwood; two daughters, Virginia Reese of Iwakuni, Japan, Judy Snow of Brownwood; two sisters, Winnie Sandel of Laguna Hills, Doris Pickens of Truth of Consequences, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six step-children; numerous step grandchildren and -grandchildren. Ruth Kendrick EASTLAND Ruth Kendrick, 91, of Bedford, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Bedford. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday at the Eastland City Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kendrick was born in Waco where she grew up. She married James Benton Kendrick in 1933; he preceded her in death. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Jerry Kendrick of Brownwfield; one daughter, Judy Massengale of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; 12 great Visitation will be 7-9 p.m.

She was a retired newspaper reporter, having worked for the Childress Reporter. She moved to Abilene from Childress in 1992. She married Gene Stewart in Childress on October 1, 1954. In Abilene, she was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church where she was active in the Primetimers Organization, Prayer Ministry, and W.M.U. She loved people and was very active in the life of the church.

Survivors include her husband of Abilene; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sherry Stewart of Abilene; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Robbie Cheatheam of Allen, TX; a brother, R.L. Prescott of Childress; a sister, La Juana Skinner of Childress; four grandsons, Christopher, Sean, Blake, and Brett; two nephews; and two nieces. Memorial contributions may be sent to Pioneer Drive. "ABIE" PRINCE Alva B. "Abie" Prince, 74, of Abilene, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at a local medical center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Southern Hills Church of Christ, with John Risse and Gary Ball officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.

Mr. Prince was born in Seymour, Texas, in Baylor County, and graduated from high school in 1941 in Munday, TX. He worked for Goodyear for a short time, and later worked as an office supervisor for Halliburton, retiring after 33 years. He moved to Abilene from Winters, TX, in 1968. He married Dorothy Leola Ball in Lubbock on April 3, 1948.

Mr. Prince was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ and a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Prince was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ora Prince, four sisters, and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; a son, Ronald James Prince of Austin; a daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Jerry Lee Smith of Abilene; two sisters, Alta Gressett of Lubbock and Ita Hill of Munday; and a grandson, Hagan Lee Elliott Camil Jay Thomas ODESSA Jay "J.L." Thomas, 56, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at a local hospital. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Craig DeArmond directed by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Mr. Thomas was born in Santa Maria, Calif. and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He owned Jay's Auto Salvage and was employed by Electric for 25 years. He married Sherrie Martin in 1962.

Survivors include his wife, Sherrie, of Odessa; one son, Kenny Thomas of Odessa; three sisters, Ruth Fields of Odessa, Joyce Weems of Winters, Linda Groebl of Midland; numerous nieces and nephews. Garrett M.C. Harlow BROWNWOOD Harlow, 65, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at his home. Services are 4 p.m. today at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev.

Richard Ivy officiating, burial in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Harlow was born in Ebson and had lived in Brownwood since 1981. He married Rosemary Grammer in 1982 and retired from the U.S. Air Force.

He was the former owner and operator of the Locker Petroleum Company and was a rancher. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of Brownwood; one son, Michael Harlow of Baker, two daughters, Teresa Harlow of Frisco, Linda Brumbelow of Brownwood; two step Kenny Grammer of New Braunfels; three brothers, Dale Harlow of Brownwood, Tilman Harlow of Llano, Carlos Harlow of Colorado Springs, one sister, Bernice Kuykendall of Cherokee; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. JERRY WORSHAM Jerry Worsham, Barry native and longtime Snyder High School drama director, passed away on May 15, 2000 in Lubbock. Services will be held Friday, May 19, 2000, at 10:00 a.m., at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana. Burial will be in Pattison Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at GriffinRoughton. A public memorial service will also be held at Scurry County Coliseum in Snyder on Saturday, June 17, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. A graduate of the University of North Texas, Worsham began his long teaching career at Corsicana High School. He left Corsicana to serve his country in the United States Navy during the early 1960's, and moved to Snyder in 1966.

At Snyder, Worsham led his students to a record in 13 state championships in one-act play competition, earning a distinction as the most successful theater director in U.I.L. history. In fact, Worsham's record is unmatched by any coach or director of any sport or activity in Texas interscholastic history. Jerry's father Raymond and identical twin brother James, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Geneva Worsham of Barry; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Lee and Jody Worsham of Nacogdoches and Charles and Gilda Worsham of Barry; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rayneva and Aubry Marr and Patsy and Raymond Gorden of Barry and Sarah Hinkle of Fort Worth; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by an extensive "Snyder family" of current and former students who participated in his drama programs. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Jerry P. Worsham Drama Education Foundation, in care of the Snyder National Bank, 1715 25th Street, Snyder, Texas 79549. The primary purpose of the foundation will be the funding of educational programs for drama students. Former Snyder High School students will serve as pallbearers.

Hubbell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a Baptist. He moved to Olney, Texas in 1997 from Abilene, Texas. He was a selfemployed General Laborer.
