Lorna was a very special 1967 Hononegah classmate of mine and my husband’s. We always seemed to have a good time when we would get together. Jim even took Lorna to our junior prom and they had a great time. She will be greatly missed. 🤗😘

Lorna was an exceptional educator and friend. She truly cared about each student who attended the R.O.E.’s Safe Schools Program, which she founded, and where I spent my last years of teaching. She was the first female principal in Unit 5, and was assigned to Lincoln School. She touched many lives and will leave a hole in my heart and the hearts of many others, I’m sure.

Lorna was part of our Rockford Voss clan.
It was a big deal to get the group from Dubuque and Rockford together when we were growing up. I saw her several years ago in Dubuque. It was a shock to see that she had died. Sending sympathy to the entire family. May her memory always be a treasure.Reply
So sad to hear this! I went to high school with Lorna. She was always so funny! Carry on, Lorna!
I met Lorna several years ago when I was getting my GED through the whiteside area education outreach program in Sterling. She became like a second mom to me. She showed me what a Mother’s unconditional love and support felt like. She stayed in my life as a mother figure. I just had lunch with her a couple weeks ago. She has been a support and present for the hard times as well as the celebrations in my life. Accepting that now both her and my wife have passed. I still can’t believe this is real. Long phone calls for advice, lectures when needed, sitting in the waiting room for my surgeries, proofreading my college essays to being the subject of one of them, encouraging me, crying with me, laughing with me, and loving me. This woman embodied the true meaning of a mother to not just her own children but to others as well. She will be deeply missed. She alongside my wife was my biggest fan and cheerleader thru the years. Getting thru now loosing them both will not be an easy road. I know she’d be noticing all the grammatical errors in this as she read it. But she was always a big fan of my writing and loved the message and content but cringed at the grammer. Love always until we meet again rest in heaven to the mom who chose to mother me in my adult life and accepted me as I am in all my imperfections.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Lorna and Paul were such good neighbors and friends to my dad, Fred Steele, when he lived across the street from them in Lyndon. I know you will miss her. Condolences to you, Paul and your family.

Lorna was my little sister but when I needed advice or help, she was always there for me. She would always do the driving and I always got lost so my life will really change. We had lots of laughs and I loved her so. Bye for now but we will be together again.
